The Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Week -- For My Peeps

The greater danger for most of us lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low, and achieving our mark.

~~ Michelangelo di Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni (a.k.a. Michelangelo ), Italian Renaissance Painter, Sculptor, Architect, Poet, and Engineer, 1475 – 1564

Two weeks ago a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad week occurred. Not for me, but for my peeps. I went on an adventure. I slipped out of my collar and away from my leash for a week-long adventure. My human, K, said I "ran away." I think that is looking at it a bit too negatively. Regardless, I was gone for a week, from Monday around 12:30 p.m. to Friday about 11 a.m. I guess while I was out exploring and having an X-treme adventure my peeps were scared, sad, upset, and worried. Not a fun time for them. Where was I? What did I do? How did I eat? Why was I limping when I returned? Those are my secrets. My snout is sealed.

I will never respect the leash!

The leash is not my friend!

It was not "running away"! It was an adventure!

O.K. I promise I will do my best to not go on an adventure run away again.

~~ MOMENT OF BEAUTY ~~

Carlo Crivelli, The Annunciation with Saint Emidius, circa 1486 (The National Gallery, London, England)

Leonardo da Vinci, Annunciation, circa 1472 - 1475 (Galleria degli Uffizi, Florance, Italy)

Back to me...

Danger gleams like sunshine to a brave man's eyes.

~~ Euripides, One of the three great Greek writers of tragedy (tragedians) of classical Athens, 480 – 406 BC.

See the sunshine gleaming in my eyes? I live for a good adventure!

I know my Pack was very upset and scared the week I was gone. I feel bad they experienced such awful emotions, and had such scary thoughts about what could possibly have happened to me. But freedom is in my blood. I love to roam, I love adventure, and I love exploring. However, I also love my Pack and my home. So what is a dog to do? I need to figure out how to coalesce the two.

On the bright side, when K saw that I had returned home she was beaming with happiness. She lavished me with praise and hugs and ear rubs, and gave me some yummy treats. I felt very special and loved! Then I starting thinking, if I received that much of a warm welcome after only one week away, what type of welcome would I receive after a two-week adventure? I'm just sayin'...

Wow, a week long adventure! I am sure they were so happy to see you, and we are VERY HAPPY that you made it home safe and sound. I hope you don't take a two week adventure - think of how good you have it at home!

Hello dear Suka, sorry my absence.
Well, what to say? A very great adventure for you, even if your humans were so worried about this. But i hope you had a great walk and that you saw some interesting things.

Don't you even think about that, Suka!!! And if for some reason you do go on another adventure, please do come to OP and directly to our place, so we can put K's mind and heart at ease. That is not good to do, pal - you scare the humans too much. We are so very glad that you did go back home, we don't even want to think about all the bad things that could have happened.

From My Vickie,
Suka, When I read your blog with Bert I was sick to my stomach. I cannot imagine what kind of anguish you caused your humans. For me, if Bert tried something like that, I think I might die.

In otherwords Suka, DO NOT EVEN THINK OF DOING THAT AGAIN, or I will have to get on a plane, come out there and find you myself and then you will be in BIG Trouble.....

Oh my heart.....

No more running away (adventures), Suka! My heart jumped when I read this. Don't scare your humans like that anymore! So very glad you are back and OK. Your family must have been so scared for you. Now, just because hu-mom was so happy for return, banish all ideas of doing it again just to get more treats! Husky hugs (and some shaking heads & paws and woos saying, "nooooo adventures, please!"

Oh Suka, WE are SO happy you made it homesafe . Adventure is fun BUT don't even think about the 2 week one. Your peeps would be worried sick and then when you came back, you'd have to nurse them back to health. That probably wouldnt be so much of an adventure.

wow suka! that sounded like quite an adventure! sometimes we like to venture out and we dont realize that it makes our people sad. But you got a great reward afterwards! maybe if you venture out for a month, you'll have a treat basket waiting for you! Either that, or your people might get a stronger more supportive leash! But leashes stink! I'm still trying to shimmy my way out of mine, so far no success.

I hope your foot is better. As fun as it is to run away, try not to do it because you might lose your way!

Oh my goodness, Suka that is SO SCARY. Try not to do that again, OK. Remember, your good friend Mr. Pip is almost 14 and can't handle such stress ...and I am pretty sure your parents can't handle it again either. Glad you are home safe and sound.

Your pal, Pip

Don't know how we missed this, but we are SO HAPPY woo got back home! Most escapees' adventures don't end on such a happy note. (Our mom paws this from very sad personal experience...) so, Suka, take a lesson from Toto's peep":

"If I ever go looking for my heart's desire again, I won't look any further than my own backyard; because if it isn't there, I never really lost it to begin with."

Hi Tiger and Cindy,

I don't know if you come back to read Comments, but I wanted to say "Thank You" for following my adventures! I love that I have fans from my old stomping grounds! I was found, and adopted, in Minnesota, and I sure miss the snow and cold!

I cannot believe you remembered "Suka Pants." I always hated that nick-name that K gave me, and thankfully she does not use it anymore (well...a few times here and there). I have suggested many other fun nick-names but so far we have not decided on one we both like. We are still working on it.

Anyway, thanks for being my friend! I always enjoy reading your comments!

Pleez, pleez pleez do not run off anymore! I slipped out of my collar before, and my hooman friend was totally freaked out. She was so glad when she caught me again. Even if the leash is boring, pleez stay with it. Thank u. :)

SUKA!!! You should be so ashamed of putting your pack through the worry and terror they must have felt! And your friends, too! A good adventure holds nothing when compared to devotion and love and care and concern. And you didn't hold up your end of the pact.

We are so glad you are home and hope you think about the fact that it's not the leash that should keep you home, but the bonds of love.
