Severe Snow Withdrawal

.

Being a man, ne'er ask the gods for a life set free from grief, but ask for courage that endureth long.

~~ Menander of Athens, Greek Dramatist and best known representative of Athenian New Comedy, 342 BC – 292 BC

I wish I might a rose-bud grow
And thou wouldst cull me from the bower.
To place me on that breast of snow
Where I should bloom a wintry flower.
- [Roses]

~~ Dionysius of Chalcus, Greek (Athenian) Poet and Orator, fl. c. 444 BC

I am a snowaholic. There, I woofed it. I am a snowaholic. I am addicted to snow. And this Winter I have only had a slight dusting of snow which lasted approximately 30 minutes. To a Malamute, snow is the number one thing in our lives. That is just the way it is. We were born and breed to be snow dogs, and a Malamute without snow is like my human, K, without chocolate orangutans without primary and old secondary forests. In other words, not a life we were meant to live. Hence, I am going through Severe Snow Withdrawal. I am lethargic, somewhat sad, not eating much, and confused as to how Winter can be snowless.

.

I don't see any snow Suka, but I don't mind. This weather is great!

Silvius, you just don't understand. I need snow.

*sigh...

In mid-July we started seeing huge fluffy caterpillars, a sign that a cold Winter was looming. So, where is the snow? Caterpillars don’t lie.

Hey Mr. Caterpillar, where is the snow?

Did I woof something wrong?

Guido Reni, Aurora, ceiling fresco, circa 1613 (Casino Rospigliosi Pallavicini, Rome, Italy)

Back to me...

.

Now I lay me down to sleep, I pray to Ullr and Khione to please please please let there be snow in the morning. Amen.

I am so excited! I hope there is snow!

Where's the snow?

Where's the snow?

Where's the snow?

O snow, snow, wherefore art thou snow?

Perhaps some duck jerky might help.

The only known cure for Severe Snow Withdrawal is snow. So, without snow, I fear my symptoms will get worse. A snowless Suka is a sad Suka. Don't worry, I normally don't woof in the third person. Suka's just sayin'...

We sure do hope that you get some snow soon Suka!!! Malamute's DO need snow!!! We need it here too...it is amazing that we haven't had any. The ski resorts are making some, but they cannot even make it on some days because it has been so unseasonably WARM! Very weird!!! We will do our snow dance for you!!

Suka I would invite you to Scotland but sadly even here, so much closer to the Arctic, we have had disappointingly little of the magical white stuff so far this year. Sigh.

No snow here either! But, Finn probably doesn't remember it and the humans are not complaining about not having it!

We feel your pain, Suka. We have almost forgotten what snow looks like, feels like, smells like. And we don't think we heard any chance of snow in the next week's forecast. Where IS all the snow? It must be trapped somewhere.

Those weather guys say things will change by the 15th, we sure hope this is one time they are right.

And don't pay any attention to our Mom who is thrilled there is no snow.

Sorry about the no-show-snow. Personally, I can do without it! And I grew up in Vermont where there's plenty of snow, but still not feeling the love!

Dear Suka
I think the snow clouds are on their way. I smell the snow- so I know its somewhere!
I am so sorry you are depressed. You need some snow flakes to chase and roll in, and bark at!
I hope it comes your way soon.
I have also been worried about the polar bears, cause they need snow and ice too,

Dear Friend, we add our White Dog voices to yours wooing the Universe for a belting blasting HUGE snowstorm for you! We have asked that the weather winds send some of the snow our mountains have been getting your way but that doesn't seem to be working very well. Hope, dear one, don't give up hope.

You won't believe it Suka, but right here in the middle of summer we had snow on the hills today! Insane. Maybe that's where your snow went.

Suka my dear pal!
I missed you lotsa! and it looks like I have much reading to catch up with you. Anyway, the best cure for withdrawal symptoms is to find a replacement, divert your mind to think on something else...maybe a bone a day would keep those symptoms away!or maybe K is free to make you some fake snows form foam board..LOL

My dear pal, I really appreciate you dropping by and sending all those kind wishes. I'm very blessed to have you as my friend!

We are believing that this year greater things are here to come and let it be a year of miracles and of endless possibilities for you, K and her lovely mommy too!!

Love ya,
Jon Terry
