Happy Memorial Day 2012

And they who for their country die shall fill an honored grave, for glory lights the soldier's tomb, and beauty weeps the brave.

~~ Joseph Rodman Drake, Early American Poet, 1795 - 1820

.

Peace to each manly soul that sleepeth;
Rest to each faithful eye that weepeth...

~~ Thomas Moore, Irish Poet, Singer, Songwriter, and Entertainer, 1779 - 1852

.

They are dead; but they live in each Patriot's breast,
And their names are engraven on honor's bright crest.

~~ Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, American Poet and Educator, 1807 – 1882

.

On this Memorial Day, my paws are crossed in remembrance for those who have died in our Nation's service.

And paws crossed for those left behind to weep.

~~ MOMENT OF BEAUTY ~~

Epigonos (?), Dying Gaul, circa 230-220 BC (Musei Capitolini, Rome, Italy)

Dying Warrior, fragment of sculpture from the east pediment of the Temple of Aphaia, Aegina, circa 490-480 BC (Glyptothek Museum, Munich, Germany)

Back to me...

Legend has it that King Arthur will awaken from his slumber at Avalon and come back to help when he is needed. I think he is needed. There are too many bad humans running around the world wrecking havoc. They need to knock it off.

I know King Arthur would make me a Knight. I would look rather stunning in my shining armour.

But what would I call myself? Sir Sukalot? Sir Sukahad? Sir 007 Sukabond? Decisions...

I exhibit all the Chivalric Virtues and I already follow much of the Code of Chivalry so Knighthood seems to be the natural progression for me. For example, I always use my "power to protect the weak and defenseless." Yummy bunnies are the exception. I "never refuse a challenge from an equal." Ninja Cats and Kung Fu Bunnies are not equals. And I always "obey those placed in authority." Actually, I don't. I am an Alpha Male, no one is above my authority! O.K., so I may need a little work on the Code, or they could just tweak it for us canines. I'm just sayin'...

Beautiful Memorial Day tribute. And we agree with OP Pack, Sir Suka rings of the nobility and pureness of heart a knight needs. These are times that indeed call for those of goodness and courage to stand up in the Spirit of King Arthur to put things back on track. You have a White Dog Army ready to fight at your side to change the world.

Hi there Suka,
I agree...what a wonderful post. In my mind, the biggest virtue of a knight is being a soldier of peace.
You are knighted in my eyes.
Happy Memorial day!
